Buying from Amazon is easy. But rarely is the easy way the best way.
Independent bookstores have always been pillars of their society. This is for many obvious reasons. A bookstore is one place where you know you will run into like-minded people. Of course, not all readers are the same. Some like fantasy books. Some like non-fiction. And some have good taste (ba-zinga!). But at our core we are all readers and we all know the value of books.
Independent bookstores are also critical to society because it is a place where the whole family is invited. Kids, parents, teens and grandpa. There is something for everyone in a bookstore! And even if there is a black sheep non-reader in the family, there is always stationery, stickers and t-shirts available.
Independent bookstores and their communities have a co-dependent relationship. A bookstore will not survive without their community. But bookstores also add lots of value to the community, as well.
Indie bookstores hire from the community. And they hire people who love books and know lots about books and authors and genres.
Indie bookstores host events that benefit and entertain the community.
Indie bookstores have hilarious and adorable sidewalk signs.
Indie bookstores smell like books, and sometimes coffee.
Indie bookstores are curated by humans. At Recycle Read Repeat this is our specialty. Thoughtful humans not only curate our shelves, but they will curate a book subscription just for you!
Indie bookstores keep money local. In fact, according to Bookshop.org, supporting a local business generates 3x more economic benefit to the community.
Speaking of Bookshop.org, did you know that you can support your local independent bookstore through Bookshop.org? Recycle Read Repeat is a used bookstore, but if you’re looking for something new you can just choose us as your bookstore on Bookshop.org and still support us. Yup-it is an amazing organization.
