Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina by Misty Copeland - Misty Copeland tells her story of how she found ballet at a community center when she was a kid and her unlikely rise to a soloist (and now principal) daner at the American Ballet Theater. Misty's story is pretty incredible as she had a challenging childhood, lived in near poverty for a time and had to prove she had a place in classical ballet as an African American woman. This book is a very easy read and the writing style is a bit repetitive but the story is compelling enough that it kept me engaged.
Eat and Run by Scott Jurek - In this book Scott Jurek talks about his unlikely journey to becoming one of the best ultramarathoners in history. He also talks about his journey to following a vegan diet and how that change in diet enhanced his performance as a runner. Scott also dives into a deeper discussion of why people choose to embark on hard physical challenges and how the endurance he needs to run allows him to handle the challenges of life. This book also includes practical sections on running technique and recipes.
This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno - Not sure what it’s about yet, but it’s a paranormal horror!
The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon - It is a fantasy romance (ofc 😂)
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt - I love octopi/octopuses/octopodes. (Which is grammatically correct??) So far I'm enjoying the writing style and falling in love with Marcellus the octopus. It is heartfelt and warm without being overly sappy - I really appreciate that. I'm only halfway through it but so far so good!
Fairy Tale by Stephen King - I've been listening to this one and it is SO GOOD. The reader is incredible. King is a master at character development. I absolutely love the old man. He is cantankerous and crude and forms such a loving bond with the protagonist - a 17 year old high school student. I'm halfway through it and it just keeps getting better and better! Highly recommend listening to this one during spooky season!
I'm still working my way through my books from last month: House of Leaves and Demon Copperhead. New books starting soon!
