This is a new addition to our weekly blogs! Each month, we will come here to tell you some of the books our monthly subscribers received from us and rated 5 stars!
Mystery/Thriller:
Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough was recently made into a Netflix limited series. It got 5 stars from one of our subscribers and they said, “I loved the plot twist!! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down.”
Literary Fiction:
Historical Romance: The Care and Feeding of Wapish Widows by Olivia Waite has a title that makes me giggle. We sent this book to 2 subscribers and both LOVED it, both giving it five stars. Here is what each said: “historical romance was definitely what I was in the mood for this month” and “This is great! Historical romance with a sense of irony!”
Nonfiction:
Yes, of course we do nonfiction! True Indie by Don Coscarelli was the most perfect find, and I knew who it was going to as soon as it came into the shop. So when we got this feedback, I was super excited: “I am insanely passionate about artist bios and I love horror movies. So this mix was a dream come true.”
Fantasy:
Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb is an older book, published in 1995. It is a favorite among lovers of high fantasy. It has been said to combine the “magic of Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.”
Here is what our subscriber said after they received the book from us: “The world-building and characters have been great so far, and this is a book that's been on my TBR for ages! I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. It was slow-paced and dragged a bit at times, but always picked back up before I started losing interest.”
LGBTQIA+ Romance:
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell is always a hit. Here is what 2 subscribers said: “Carry On really awoke a need for more gay books in me. I'm now reading everything FT Lukens has written, which I'm enjoying, but are a little more on the younger and simpler side for me. It’s hard to find magic mlm without heading to the teen section, but Carry On made me less afraid to hit the teen/YA rack. I guess I've already forgotten what teens like haha! Y’all did great with Carry On - thank you for that. I finished it within 3 days of receiving it and immediately went to the library for the other two, which I read just as fast, if not faster.”
And: “loved it. I got attached to the characters and finished the whole book in two days. I liked that it was sort of like your stereotypical "chosen one" story but also not at the same time.”
