As members of the American Booksellers Association, we get access to a variety of information about books and bookselling. One of our favorite pieces of information we have access to is the Indie Bestseller List. Independent booksellers from all over the country upload their most sold books that week, and the ABA shares them. Here’s what we found on the May list.
With a bunch of books I have not read, the fiction bestseller list puts me to shame. But I really felt it when I saw This is How You Lose the Time War. I was so excited to read this book but I just couldn’t finish it. I just found myself not caring. When reading, I care most for the writing and then for the characters, neither of which captured me within the first ⅓ of the book. Kate kept telling me to just hold out and it would all be worth it, but I just couldn’t. I am rarely ashamed of not finishing a book, but this one haunts me. Right now I am chalking it up to mood, and I will give it a try another time!

To add to my shame, looking at the nonfiction list, I realized I have not read a single one of them! But I am not much of a nonfiction reader. But Kate read a few on the list and really enjoyed them.
Killers of Flower Moon by David Grann - It's on Netflix and I am probably going to watch it instead of reading it.
Caste by Isabel Wilkerson - It's on my shelf to read this summer.
I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jeannette McCurdy - Kate said it's hilarious and heartbreaking. I should probably listen to it!
